What is TFP/TFCD?

E-mail Print PDF
There are three common arrangements for a model and a photographer. (TFCD Policy)
  1. Photographer gets paid by model to work on their portfolio
  2. Model gets paid by photographer or by photographer's customer
  3. Model and photographer setup a shoot where the photographer pays the model with photos for her portfolio. This is known as TFP or "Trade For Pictures" or "Trade for CD". This is a common way for a model and photographer to create images to build their respective portfolios without cost to either of them.  The model gives their time, signs a release and receives images for their portfolio as payment. The photographer retains the copyright but allows the model to use the photos for self promotion.

What to expect for TFP/TFCD
The number of edited photos a model should expect will vary depending on how many looks or outfits we photograph, and the time we spend shooting them.  We generally share all usable images, resized and marked as samples, either online or via CD.

We then have the model select a limited quantity of images they would like to have edited.  It works out to 3 or 4 images per look. The reason for the limits is that we only want the best images to be shared publicly. This benefits both us and the model since we are both trying to put our best foot forward in the modeling and photographer communities. Another reason is that we don't wish to spend more time editing than we do photographing, which is what we truly love to do.

For example:

·        1½ - 2 hours (2 looks) - Model selects 6 to 8 edited images

·        2 - 3 hours (3 looks)   - Model selects 9 to 12 edited images

·        3 - 4 hours (4 looks )  - Model selects 12  to 15 edited images

Models Wanted:
If you’re a model out there tired of the same old look and basic work, and are willing to try and do something new and different, feel free to contact me. Please note that I am willing to pay models for commercial assignments ONLY, not for portfolio work. If you are looking to do Time for CD (TFCD) and have a great idea or unique look, let me know and we can see what we can do.

TFCD is short for Time for CD. Similar to TFP (Time for Prints), it is a co-operation for mutual benefit: Both the model and the photographer put in her/his time, resources and effort. Both benefit from each other's skills and talents. No money changes hands. Both, the model and the photographer cover their own expenses. The photographer will provide the model a CD with pictures taken during the shoot. If you work with me you will receive a CD with a selection of the best pictures from the shoot. All of the pictures will go through my personal post-production process to ensure the highest quality images. You will be able to use these photographs to advertise yourself on the internet.

In a TFCD project nobody has commissioned the photographer to take the photographs. The photographer does personal work.

TFCD is typically a low budget affair and the model will usually be required to do her (his) own hair, make-up and nails, and supply her (his) own clothes. Although these are not paid projects, everyone is expected to display professionalism and treat it as work, fun work.

Models I recruit will invariably be doing personal work on a TFCD basis. You will be partner in the project, responsibile to put all your efforts, imagination, creativity and soul into it.
